The product photos displayed showcase the Airstik 2stage, a sleeker version of the Mammoth 2stage. Essentially, their design and functional features are identical between the two models. However, the Airstik 2stage has a smaller barrel circumference, and its pump head lacks the convertible Presta/Schrader head twist lock feature.
The innovation of the Mammoth 2 Stage mini-pump lies in its ability to combine two key pumping features into one product: inflating a low-pressure, high-volume mountain bike tire, and conversely, a high-pressure, low-volume road bike tire. This dual functionality is easily accessed through a switch design located at the end of the pump.
So, how does it work? The innovation involves initially delivering a high volume of air into the tire at a low internal pressure and with minimal pumping effort. When switched to the high-pressure chamber, less strength is required to push air into the tube, although the volume of air is smaller.
Stronger-armed users will be able to achieve the same air pressure with fewer strokes. Conversely, those seeking an easier experience can switch to the high-pressure mode earlier. In either case, a locking mechanism designed for the convertible Presta/Schrader head minimizes air loss.
The pump head features a recessed detail that provides a resting area for the fingers during inflation. Aesthetically, this detail complements the clean aluminum extruded barrel body. The barrel’s end cap showcases the signature Blackburn design identity. Made of translucent red plastic, the end cap is injected with an engraved brand icon on the backside, offering a subtle and elegant representation of the brand.
