Inspired by a principle of “modern utility”, the design ethos for the EATON MATSN was built around human-centricity and modern aesthetics. The auto power source switcher is capable of automatically converting power from a default source to a backup or external source. The design has won an iF Design award in 2023.
For KOODESIGN, two key focal points for the design process were its modular functionality and its integrated lever encloser. We were able to align with Eaton’s design principles and character, helping to build a holistic family look and feel, while contributing to a common design language that aligns with the Eaton experience.
Eaton’s products are designed with usability and experience in mind. Our designs needed to consider the product’s unique requirements, leveraging our extensive portfolio, and examine cases down to specific nuances. Eaton’s design practice uses core principles, divided into “DNA,” and “character,”
Our objective was to develop a look and feel that works for a holistic family of products and to provide a common design language around the “Eaton experience.”
Precision, responsive and speed
Our integrated three-position model achieves rapid switching within 100ms, supporting both auto manual position lock. It is also highly durable and safe for regular maintenance.
Integrated Lever Encloser
The circuit breaker is dedicated to protection, and the ATS focuses on conversion. The basis for conversion is to pay attention to the power supply. An integrated manual lever for controlling the circuit connection is stored under a flip door to prevent misplacement, while protecting the lever and the circuit breaker slot.
Modular Design
A modular design for the poles eases manufacturing and assembly, while allowing different pole configurations : 2, 3 or 4 poles. Per-pole components are designed with a consistent profile for three sets of configurations. The poles are assembled in between the main unit on the left, and a cosmetic enclosure on the right, to create a unified design.
